I’m so glad you found me! Using a strengths-based perspective, I will help you find your voice, feel more empowered and uncover the resources you can draw upon to move forward.
I now have over 30 years’ experience working with people with a variety of issues, providing a supportive and non-judgmental therapeutic relationship for those, who often saw their future as unclear, overwhelming and uncertain. I help my clients to see and move towards a future which holds potential and fulfillment, where they can flourish.
Counselling and listening to others is part of who I am. As a young person I often found myself supporting people through tough times by listening with compassion and providing a caring presence. My career path has provided me many opportunities to assist men and women in a variety of settings, who were struggling to stay connected to hope, and in many instances had few supports. Often these people had developed unhelpful coping behaviours and lived chaotic life styles. I became aware of the huge impact of traumatic events, from both childhood and later in life, and how this contributed to people’s struggles to maintain stability. Some of these people also had experiences of homelessness and some had resorted to the use of substances in order to self-medicate emotional pain.
I chose to study and learn all I could about the impact of trauma, and how to help those suffering the effects of traumatic experiences. I am committed to ongoing training in order to ensure my trauma informed counselling continues to provide up-to-date and evidence-based therapy, so I can provide a healing relationship, and help my clients develop the skills to “Live a Life Worth Living”.
I have specialist training in the provision of DBT and Somatic therapy (Body work with trauma) from the Centre for Mental Health, Australian DBT Institute. As well as working with individuals, I have also been delivering therapeutic group programs for substance abuse recovery groups and DBT skills development.
I have completed EMDR training
My other area of special interest is Relationship and Couple Counselling. I have a passion to see couples flourish, relationships succeed. I am a Certified Facilitator in the Prepare/Enrich marriage preparation program and I have completed John Gottman Method Couples Therapy Training.
My long involvement with families and relationships, both personally and professionally, has taught me much about the struggles and challenges that we all face at different stages of life and relationships. I am committed to ongoing training in order to assist those who are facing relationship difficulties.
My final area of specialisation is Clinical Supervision. I absolutely love and am passionate about the opportunity to work with and support other counsellors and psychotherapists. So they can further develop their provision of quality, evidence based practices, and also practice self-care so they can remain the best therapists they can be. I am currently employed as a Trainer /Assessor delivering the Diploma of Counselling. I am a registered clinical supervisor with PACFA.
