When sharing details of difficult issues in your life, it is important to know they will be kept private and confidential.
At Mima Counselling Services we take our ethical obligations very seriously and acknowledge the trust clients place in us. We give a very high priority to maintaining your privacy and confidentiality.
If we believe you or someone else could be at serious risk of harm, our code of ethics require us to share important knowledge to enable you (or someone else) to be kept safe. There are legal requirements for counsellors to share knowledge regarding any clients at risk of harm or who have serious plans to harm others.
At times it can be useful for your counsellor to have conversations with other helping professionals involved with you or your family. Permission will be gained from you before any information is shared. The only other time information may be required to be shared is if you are subpoenaed by a court of law to release our files.
The three counsellors at Mima, work as a therapeutic multidisciplinary team to support families. Where clinically relevant and helpful, information is shared within the therapeutic team when considered to be in the bests interests of our clients. Please discuss your preferences regarding this if your family is being supported by more than one member of our team.
